Tomb of Torumtay - Amasya

Tomb of Torumtay - Amasya

The tomb, which is directly opposite Gök Medrese, was built in 1278 by Amasya Governor Seyfeddin Torumtay. In addition to Seyfeddin Torumtay, there are graves of his children and grandchildren. The plan and decorations of the tomb are quite different from the other Seljuk tombs. The rectangular plan is covered with vaults and the building has two floors. Stairs and buttresses supporting the walls form protrusions on the body walls. The decorations gathered around the doors and windows of the Seljuk tombs are generally located in the upper parts of the tomb. It is thought that all the decorations could not be completed. Again there is an ornate window in the marble niche. Contrary to the usual, there is a four-line inscription on the pediment of the niche which has been left without decoration. In the inscription on the niche's belt, there are verses from the Qur'an. The upper parts of the windows on the eastern and western facades were damaged. It is understood from the verse repair inscription on the window on the southern front of the tomb that was entered through the doors on the east and west facades that the structure was repaired in 1891-1892. There are verses of the Quran written with calligraphy on the ones belonging to Torumtay, one of the boxes at the funeral on the lower floor.
