SİLLE VILLAGE

Sille Village, which is about 8 kilometers away from Selçuklu district, is the oldest settlement of Konya. Archaeological surveys have shown that this settlement area is at least 6,000 years old. Formerly a Greek village, Sille is now a district of Selçuklu.

This ancient Greek village is one of the important points to be discovered with its rich history. It is accepted that the name of Sille Village comes from the word Silene in Greek mythology.

There are many Roman ruins along the village. Sille Village, which has also been recognized as an important religious center for its location on the Byzantine, Jerusalem and Roman roads. This situation made the Hagios Khariton Monastery (Ak Manastır) among the oldest and largest monasteries in the world. The monastery is one of the most important ruins in the village.

Sille Village has not lost its importance during the Seljuk period. The reason for this is that it was on the Silk Road and Spice Road.
