THE TRACES OF THE LOST MEDITERRANEAN MONTANISM OF CHRISTIANITY IN PEPOUZA

The center where Montanism emerged was the city of Pepouza in the Phrygian region. According to written sources, the city had a Byzantine monastery. More than sixty rooms, cafeteria, chapel, kitchen, cross-shaped Byzantine graffiti and Byzantine pottery were found on the three floors of the monastery. In addition, the spring water in the eastern part of the Ulubey Canyon was brought to Pepouza, which was thought to be a great settlement, in the area where the canyon was enlarged, west of the Roman bridge, 2.5 km away with the help of the Clandras aqueduct.
