NEVŞEHİR MUSEUM

The establishment of a museum in Nevşehir was brought to life in 1967. The establishment of the museum, the landscaping of the ruins that were neglected years ago, the restoration and conservation of the churches and the cleaning and illumination of the underground cities have come to the agenda. The idea of ​​establishing a museum was put forward by the Central Library Director Hamit Özalp. In 1963-1964, Özalp kept the historical monuments he collected from the environment in a room of the library. The works of Özalp were not inconclusive, and in 1966 the opening of a museum in Nevşehir was decided by the General Directorate of Antiquities and the Museum. As part of the Damat İbrahim Pasha Complex, the Aşevi and Sübyan School were renovated to be used as museums. In 1966, the exhibition and arrangement works were completed and Damat İbrahim Paşa opened its doors to visit the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography. In 1987, it was moved to its current location within the Cultural Site. There are two exhibition halls, archaeological and ethnographic. There are 2854 archaeological, 3210 ethnographic, 6914 coins, 2 tablets, 93 seals and seal presses and 87 handwritten books in the Nevşehir Museum. Within the borders of Nevşehir, there are 358 registered buildings, 2 of which are military buildings, 69 religious and cultural buildings and 287 civil architecture. 33 of them are archeological, 3 of them are urban, 4 of them are historical A total of 48 sites are available.
