Built on the pilate to the south of the road leading to the inner castle at the site of Ani Ören, the plan of Abu'l Menuçehr Mosque is the oldest known and surviving Seljuk monument. After the conquest of Ani by Seljuks, the mosque which was built by Abu'l Menuçehr Bey in 1072 is the first Turkish mosque in Anatolia since it was built before Sivas Divriği Ulucami.
