LAKE OF MEKE

Lake Meke is not just a place to be visited in Konya. This lake, which enjoys a nationwide reputation, is flooded by local and foreign tourists.

Meke, also known as Crater Lake, is one of the natural beauties in Karapınar district of Konya province. Its formation was caused by an extinct volcano crater being filled with water and small islets in the middle. As a geopolitical location, it remains within 2 kilometers of the Karapınar-Ereğli road after the turn at the 7th kilometer. The lake and the primary crater pit are 800 m long in length and 500 m in width and 12 m deep. 400 million years ago as a result of an explosion created by the crater as we have done with the water filled with water, and then the lake was 9000 years ago the second explosion with the second volcano cone appeared and over time the room was filled with water and turned into a lake.

The height of Lake Meke is 981 meters above sea level. Located in the middle of the main Mecca and 50 meters above the water level in the volcano cone is 25 meters in depth and the water is very salty in taste. The volcanic mass structure that forms the island in the lake has the property that can absorb water without causing overflow even in very heavy rains. This is the most important reason why the structure of Meke has not changed for centuries. But recently, the Konya Basin lakes dry up completely because of the irresponsible consumption of groundwater resources, especially in the summer, although it is still rare nature break on migratory birds Turkey is considered as one of our great.

When viewed from above, it is seen as a small black spot that is surrounded by clear water in a bird's eye view. Thanks to this view, the lake has been called "Evil Eye Bead". However, as a result of the withdrawal of groundwater of the Konya Plain, there was not much water around the lake and therefore lost its regular appearance in the ancient times.
