Karapınar Desert, which is the only desert in our country, is located in Karapınar district of Konya. Over the years, desertification has caused many migrants in the region and as a result, the population has decreased considerably. Karapınar, which is located on the Silk Road, is one of the most important trade routes throughout the history. The effect of being the only one in our country has made Karapınar a place frequently visited not only by domestic but also by foreign tourists.
Among the reasons underlying the formation of the Karapınar Desert are the destruction of the land by the inhabitants of the region, as well as the impact of hard-blowing wind. In 1960, for the region which was the only affected land of our country, erosion of wind erosion began to make state projects to stop desertification.
While Karatay, Konya and Çumra; southeast of Adana and Eregli; Karapınar, located in Karaman in the south, is the only desert in our country, the Karapınar Desert is one of the places worth seeing in our country with its lakes, natural and historical beauties.
