HATAY AKTEPE HISTORY TURKMEN CEMETICS

On the way from the historical process, Hassa and its environs were interrupted by different Turkmen tribes from the 9th century. These raids, especially in the Seljuk period and 13-14. century has gained speed with the Mongol invasion. In the 15th century, the new Turkmen migrations were realized with the passing of the region into the hands of the Ottomans. At these dates Hassa and around Avşar and Bayat tribes have a strong structure. The ”OK ername stamps of the stones found in the Hassa Turkmen Kabirli are seen as the stamp of the Bayat neck in the book titled gal Hünername“ which is the 16th century Ottoman manuscript. Historical data indicate that the Bayat occupied the region in this century. The stamps on the grave stones confirm this historical data.

It is likely that the first use phase of the Hassa Aktepe Turkmen Tomb, whose treasury is still in the period until the near term, dates back to the early years of the Turks entering Anatolia.

In the light of all these data, it is aimed to prepare all the stamp index in the stones by completing the cleaning of the grave stones with the archaeological studies conducted in the area. According to the results of the survey will be possible to make a date.

The aim of the cemetery is to cover the cultural values of the region by carrying out the landscaping and surrounding area of the cemetery in the Turkmen Cemetery under the direction of the Hatay Archeology Museum.
