The Word Church comes from the Greek word ekkelisia. The Word Church means gathering. This word is the equivalent of the words of the community and mosque in US. Churches are also called the places of worship for the gatherings of Christians to serve as servants. Small churches that are smaller than the churches are called Chapel, which is equivalent to our Masjid. There are many small chapel churches in Ardahan and its surroundings, belonging to the religious architecture of the Christian period, whose names do not even exist in the sources. It is believed that these structures, which were largely destroyed, were constructed during Byzantine rule in the region.
