Ayışığı  Monastery- Balıkesir

The Moonlight Monastery, located at the very end of the Pateriça peninsula in the north of Alibey (Cunda) Island, is located at the point where a steep hill (299 altitude) meets the sea. The construction date of the Moonlight Monastery is not known exactly. (It is said that the dates 1771 and 1795 are written on two stones. However, considering that the people of Ayvalık were not developed enough to build this monastery, which was far from the city in 1771, this date does not seem realistic. 1795 date is more likely. It was ruined by the unconscious treasure hunters after the death of Fahrettin Bey, surrounded by walls, and the church is located in the middle of the courtyard as in other monasteries. In the monastery, animals were fed in the monastery and in the fields in the western part of the monastery, agriculture was made. and with a domed (four arched) rectangular plan facing east. The entrance door of the church is built of garlic stone. When the garlic stone used in the church is taken into consideration, it is understood that the church was restored and rebuilt at various times in the 1850s. There is a two-storey building right on the sea side at the entrance through the pathway. Today, almost all of the steps of the stairs leading to the second floor have been broken and a large part of the upper floor of the second floor has been destroyed. The Moonlight Monastery is open to natural and human influences, which has destroyed most of the time.
