Aydin Ilyasbey Mosque

Ilyasbey Mosque - Aydin
It is located in Balat Village, next to Miletos in Söke. It was built in 1404 by Ilyas Bey, one of the Mentesogullari. The mosque, known as Cuma Mosque, was used in the construction of the marble blocks of the ancient city of Miletos. Therefore, the inside and outside of the mosque were covered with smooth marble blocks. There is a three-line inscription dated h.806 (1403) on the pointed arched door of the square mosque in the north which is important for marble and stone workmanship. The dome covering the place of worship is 14 m. It is in diameter and covered with tile. It is illuminated by four windows in two rows on each wall. The first row of windows on the eastern wall were decorated with inlaid tiles. The second row of windows is covered with geometric patterned stained glass. The mosque is 5.20x7.35 m. The marble niche in size is adorned with geometric patterns and is the most beautiful example of its era. The four-cornered tomb of 1404 dated to the mosque belongs to İlyas Bey. The madrasah and imaret of the Menteşeoğulları period are in ruins and two of these floors consist of vaulted rooms around a courtyard.
